July 2008 ‘Out of the Blue’

This year, we are once again delighted to be joining with our colleagues in the emergency services throughout Wales, to host a similar event to last year, but on a much larger scale! Over the two days we are expecting to attract as many as 20,000 visitors!  'Out of the Blue' will be held in Bute Park, Cardiff.  The event will be run over two days, and is completely free of charge to attend!

In conjunction with World Rescue Wales, 'Out of the Blue' will be an opportunity to involve the public in road safety and other community safety issues.  We are confident that by proactive partnership working, 'Out of the Blue' will attract visitors from across the region and will play an important part in promoting community safety throughout Wales and beyond.

Bute Park

Flanked by the river Taff, Sophia Gardens, Pontcanna Fields and Cardiff Castle, But Park forms a huge open space within the centre of Cardiff.  Few cities have such a spacious green area in the heart of their city.  Covering nearly 130 acres, Bute Park once formed the grounds of Cardiff Castle, and has a long history of landscaping going back to the medieval period.

The park owes its present day appearance to the late 18th Century landscaping by Capability Brown and late 19th Century alterations by the third Marquis of Bute.  Running northwards the length of the River Taff, the park offers a combination of flower gardens, recreational grounds and even a circle of standing stones.  The park is home to many events during the year, including beer festivals, open air concerts, firework displays and tradeshows.

Day 1 - Schools - Friday 11 July 2008

Is open to all secondary schools and children's clubs and organisations within South Wales and is completely free of charge to attend.

Day 2 - Public - Saturday 12 July 2008

Everyone is welcome!  On day two the event is open to the general public and again is completely free of charge!
