South Wales Fire and Rescue Service – Fire Investigation Dogs

Arson is the single largest cause of fire in the UK to date. South Wales Fire and Rescue service is the only fire and rescue service in Wales to operate and use Fire Investigation dogs and one of only 11 Fire and Rescues Services in Britain to use Fire Investigation dogs.

The Fire Investigation Search dog is called out to fires where arson is suspected. The dog searches the fire scene once the fire is out and the scene is cold. The vapour given off by an ignitable liquid (e.g. Petrol, paraffin, diesel etc.) is tracked down at speed by the dog.
